"I had offers from Navy and Lehigh," said Elbaum. "But I decided that I didn't want to go to Navy, and I waited too long on Lehigh, and they took a commitment from another kid."
Yale and Northeastern are the two main schools in contact with Elbaum at the moment. He had an in-home visit with Yale this fall, and Northeastern assistant John Rhodes, who recruited Elbaum while he was at Ohio University, has remained in touch.
"I'm looking to commit as soon as possible," said Elbaum. "It's a lot of stress. ... I'm definitely looking for a winning program, and it's got to be a good school, too, for after college."
A big, rangy point guard with good vision and a feel for the game, Elbaum takes care of the ball and makes good decisions. He is a strong defender on the ball.
"College coaches like my passing and (capacity for) running the offense," said Elbaum. "And my on-the-ball defense."
Elbaum, who plays for Jim Plate at St. John the Baptist, runs with the Long Island-based Rising Stars in AAU.
Prep school is also an option for the Wheatley Heights native.
