Rice Guard Prospect Cancels Official Visit

Reporter Brian Towey had a chance to interview talented Rice guard prospect Durand Scott about his recruiting process. Scott recently canceled an official campus visit ...

Durand Scott scratched one official visit this weekend. The Rice (N.Y.) High School standout is confident that he'll see at least two more campuses before he's through, however.

"I was supposed to visit UCLA this weekend but I cancelled it," said Scott, who led the New York Gauchos to an 87-65 win over Princeton Day Academy at the IS8 Classic playoffs on Saturday. "I'm not sure as of now (if I'll reschedule it)."

Tennessee will receive Scott next weekend for an official. Miami will also get a visit at a date yet to be determined. Scott's list is holding steady at five, with UConn and Pitt rounding out the group.

"It's pretty much even," said Scott. "They're all pretty much on the same level."

The wing dynamo admits to feeling some heat at this stage of his recruitment. Still, he is resolute in his desire to decide on his own clock.

"Now it is (stressful)," said Scott. "But it's not going to force me to make my decision any sooner. When I make it, it'll happen.

"I definitely want to make my decision before my (high school) season begins. If it goes longer than that, then it is what it is. But that's the idea: to do it before the season."
