New Yorker Could Land Big Role With Area Team

Reporter Mike Sullivan has been following the movement and positioning of the area AAU teams as the high school basketball season approaches. It appears that Torrel Harris is building a terrific AAU team in preparation for next spring and summer ...

Myron Respress, a 6-foot-7 forward originally from Niagara Falls High School in Niagara Falls, New York, could be playing some AAU ball for Long Island based AAU team, the Unique All Stars under Torrel Harris.

Harris disclosed this after his team lost a gritty quarterfinal playoff game against the Playaz Senior team at IS8 in South Jamaica, New York.

"He's supposed to be with us," said Harris.

Having Respress alongside such players like his sons, Tyler and Tobias, should give Harris a team he can win a lot of games with in the spring and the summer.

Respress, a member of the 2010 class and a junior, transferred to North Carolina Tech last month. His upside is deep and could add some more size to his frame down the road.

Myron was watched by national expert Dave Telep too.

Myron Respress was far and away the most competitive kid we saw Friday night. His team was down big and he wasn't about to stand for it. He's active around the rim, has a body he can grow into and will battle inside. He's probably 6-7 and pushing two bills so there's room to grow.

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: The ability to progress in the areas of shooting the perimeter shot. If he improves his short and mid-range game, Respress will likely fetch some quality division one offers.

-- Big East schools (Rutgers, Seton Hall, Providence) are keeping an eye on Myron.
