Player To Watch In 2008-2009 -- Junior Guard

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on a guard who competed over the summer for the New York City Gauchos AAU program ... his impressive display of hitting his perimeter shot is likely to help him with some scholarship offers down the road ...

Sandro Carissimo, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooting guard/point guard from Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y., first impressed us with his solid play competing for the New York City Gauchos AAU program.

Carissimo was one of the better players for the Gauchos as they went up against the best national competition in the 16 and under category at the Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Sandro also was terrific in the IS8 Fall League for the New York City Gauchos. He had some big games, including damaging a Princeton Day Academy team from Maryland in the IS8 playoffs.

But he's just building off the momentum and confidence he gained off the July period. Displaying a deep shooting range, Sandro has seen his recruiting interest steepen.

Among the schools showing interest in his skill level: St. Francis, Davidson, Brown, Albany, Holy Cross, and Harvard.

He's also a terrific student too, opening up more options for himself as he prepares to have a big junior season.
