2011 Prospect Excelling In Two Sports

Reporter Mike Sullivan highlights the individual athletic career of Anthony Gaffney from the Pennington School in New Jersey ...

Anthony Gaffney, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooting guard/small forward from the Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, continues to thrive in two major sports, according to his AAU coach, Matt Pauls, of NJABC.

"Anthony has had a great sophomore football season playing both running back and defensive back," said Pauls. "He has scored a number of touchdowns and has a few interceptions."

The football season is almost over so Gaffney is ready to make the transition to the sport of basketball.

"He is preparing to play the shooting guard position for The Pennington School this winter," said Pauls. "And to having a big spring/summer on the AAU circuit as well as the football combine/camp circuit."

Gaffney is also successful in the classroom. "His grades are very strong while taking honors courses," said Pauls.

So, with a career going well in basketball and football, the academically skilled Gaffney has interest from several high quality colleges and universities.

"He has interest from Cornell, Princeton, and Brown (among other Patriot and Ivy League schools) for basketball, and many high major division one schools, including the University of Maryland, for football," said Pauls.

Gaffney averaged 11 points and six rebounds as a freshman. He was named second team all prep by the local newspaper, the Trentonian.
