Options Available For New York Prospect

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a player profile update on Long Island prospect Josh Elbaum, who was impressive during the IS8 Fall League ...

Josh Elbaum, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound point guard/combo guard from St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, N.Y., comes off an impressive run in the IS8 Fall League that has many believing someday we'll see him competing on the division one level in college basketball.

The 2009 senior has several options -- he can reclassify and give himself more opportunities for scholarship offers or continue to work hard and see where every falls in the next few months.

Navy had shown some interest in Elbaum while reporter Brian Towey had in his last report that Lehigh dropped out of the recruiting process after landing a prospect.

Yale and Northeastern are involved.

Here is an evaluation report on Josh Elbaum's individual game, taken from several in person reviews:

Josh Elbaum has shown he can help a team win a game in several ways. He has the ability to take the ball to the basket, grab a rebound in traffic, defend hard against a tough offensive foe, or finding an open teammate with a pass.

A big, rangy point guard with good vision and a feel for the game, Elbaum takes care of the ball and makes good decisions. He is a strong defender on the ball.

Elbaum, who plays for head coach Jim Plate at St. John the Baptist, competes with the Long Island-based Rising Stars in AAU.
