NYC Guard Expected To Lift St. John's

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on South Kent guard Omari Lawrence of New York City. Lawrence is committed to St. John's University and excitement is building for the future ...

It's been a while since St. John's University basketball fans have had something to get excited about. But head coach Norm Roberts and his coaching staff have done a solid job in landing talent in the City and outside the state lines.

Tomorrow, at a press conference near the soon to be demolished Yankee Stadium, former St. Raymond's guard Omari Lawrence will put his signature to a letter of intent and help the Red Storm move forward in the Big East Conference.

The 6-foot-4 swingman, who is now at South Kent in Connecticut, gave his decision to St. John's University last August. Lawrence competed for Gary Charles' New York Panthers' program over the past year.

The attractive aspects for Lawrence are well documented on this website. Omari has stated that playing in front of his family and friends was big and an opportunity to compete in Madison Square Garden helped advance his decision in favor of St. John's.

A swift moving lefty guard, Lawrence can dazzle you with moves along the baseline and produces points in bunches.

WHAT OMARI LAWRENCE PREVIOUSLY SAID ON HIS DECISION:

"I feel St. John's is the best place for me. I'll have the opportunity. I'll work hard and hopefully we can win a lot of games."
