Maryland Becomes Serious With NJ Prospect

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a recruiting update on two-sport star Dontae Johnson of The Pennington School in New Jersey. It appears one ACC school is very serious in their level of interest with Johnson ...

Dontae Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound wide receiver/safety from The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, is expected to formally receive a scholarship offer from Maryland, according to his NJABC AAU basketball head coach Matt Pauls.

"Maryland said they are formally sending him out a scholarship offer today," said an excited and proud Pauls.

Johnson, who also plays basketball for The Pennington School, was timed in the 40 in 4.55 seconds.

There are several other schools watching Johnson in the sport of football. They are: Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Connecticut, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Duke, North Carolina, and Michigan State.

PREVIOUS QUOTE FROM NJABC HEAD COACH MATT PAULS: "If he wanted to, he could play division one basketball, but has decided to focus on football. He has about a 3.8 GPA taking very hard courses."
