New Jersey Prospect Has Duel Sport Interest

Anthony Gaffney, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooting guard/small forward from the Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, has excelled over the past year playing both basketball and football. "He has plenty of options," said his AAU coach, Matt Pauls, of NJABC.

Playing running back and defensive back as a sophomore this season, Gaffney has proven he could be a player that lands scholarships in two major sports.

"He's now focusing on the basketball season," said Pauls. "He had a great season in football."

Gaffney is expected to land quality minutes at the shooting guard position this winter for The Pennington School basketblal team. He also plans on competing for Pauls' NJABC program in the spring and summer as well as make appearances in football camp combines.

"He is preparing to play the shooting guard position for The Pennington School this winter," said Pauls. "And to having a big spring/summer on the AAU circuit as well as the football combine/camp circuit."

Gaffney is also successful in the classroom. "His grades are very strong while taking honors courses," said Pauls.

The Ivy League schools have been showing early interest in his skill level for basketball while more division one programs are expressing interest in his football capabilities.

Cornell, Columbia, Brown, and Princeton have been mentioned as schools of interest for hoops while Maryland has gotten a head start in recruiting the 2011 prospect for football.

*Gaffney averaged 11 points and six rebounds as a freshman. He was named second team all prep by the local newspaper, the Trentonian.
