JAMAICA, NEW YORK -- Jason Givens buried a three-pointer with 35 seconds left to give Thurgood Marshall a come from behind victory, 62-61, over Holy Cross in the first game of the Big Apple Classic.

The event was held inside Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John's University.

Holy Cross had spurted out to an early 20-7 advantage after the first eight minutes of play. The perimeter shooting of senior guard Eric Klingsberg propelled Holy Cross. Eric scored eight points in the quarter, including two three-pointers.

Holy Cross headed into the third quarter with a 32-26 advantage. But Marshall just kept hanging around until they closed the gap in the final period of play.

Givens' three from the left side still gave Paul Gilvary's squad plenty of time to produce a winning basket.

But Holy Cross just couldn't deliver the go-ahead points.

Joseph Monahan, a senior guard for Holy Cross, led his team with 23 points. He shot the ball very well from all spots on the floor.

Givens finished with 14 points while Antoine Hackman added 12 and Trevor Dillard produced 13 points.
