New Jersey Guard Has Many High D-1 Looks

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on a terrific 2010 guard prospect who is competing for St. Patrick High School in New Jersey ...

Kyrie Irving, a 6-foot-1, 167-pound guard from St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, continues to have some high profile programs show their interest in his skill level.

Sources tell us that Maryland head coach Gary Williams was at Irving's practice yesterday morning displaying his level of interest.

There are several schools that would love to ink Irving's signature to a letter of intent in another year.

Indiana publisher John Decker previously reported that Irving had a good visit to Indiana while the Notre Dame scout.com site stated that Kyrie plans on visiting the Irish campus next spring.

Irving, who averaged almost 28 points a game last season at Montclair Kimberly Academy, has a boatload of schools recruiting him besides Maryland, Notre Dame and Indiana.

Among them: Rutgers, St. John's, Villanova, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Kansas State, Kansas, Florida, Marquette, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Southern California.

We had a chance to watch Irving play extensively while he was down in Florida during the July evaluation month. He is a handful to guard. His speed and quickness can break down most defenses. He knows how to find creases in a zone to damage that type of defense as well.
