Big East Schools Recruit Underclassman

Reporter Brian Towey of the New York high school website has a detailed update on Connecticut based big man Andre Drummond, who has many high division one programs already involved in his recruiting process ...

The state of Connecticut has proven itself as a reliable supplier of quality basketball talent. J.R. Hargreaves, one of the coaches with the Connecticut Basketball Club, a top AAU program in the state, has a young big man who is already gaining a rep in New England.

Andre Drummond, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound sophomore center from Capital Prep in Hartford, Conn., has a chance to be special, according to the coach.

"He's athletic, strong, can run the floor, rebounds, blocks shots -- he does everything," said Hargreaves. "What he's going to need to do is work on his post moves a little bit more. He's so athletic, and bigger than everybody, so he gets away with it right now."

The state's flagship college program has already taken a serious interest in the Middletown, Conn., native. "Connecticut has already offered him," said Hargreaves. "They want him to commit right now. But he's going to wait. ... He's only 15 years old, so he really could be in the class of 2012."

Hargreaves lists Florida, West Virginia, Georgetown, Massachusetts, Fordham, Providence, and Rutgers among other early suitors. Florida and Georgetown spotted Drummond over the summer.

Andre attended Rutgers' elite camp. Most of the schools have been in to evaluate Drummond. "He has a chance," said Hargreaves.
