Area Forward Will Play Basketball In Midwest

Reporter Brian Towey has the story of a forward from the tri-state area who recently made a verbal commitment to a school located in the midwest part of the country ...

Jackie Carmichael, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward from the South Kent (Conn.) School will play his college ball in the Missouri Valley.

"Jackie just committed to Illinois State at the beginning of April," said South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson of the 2009 prospect.

"Jackie was recruited at a high level, with Seton Hall and Big 12 (Conference) schools showing interest, so Illinois State did a great job in getting it done."

The native Kansan's physicality is his best asset right now, according to Jefferson.

"Physically, he's ready to play for (Illinois St.) right now," said Jefferson. "He's got the body. I like my big guys to be athletic and to play above the rim, and he can do that, but he's got the strength (as well)."
