Lance Brown: "I'm My Own Man"

Reporter Mike Sullivan spoke to Lance Brown this past weekend after the New Jersey prospect competed in the Michael Jordan Brand Classic Regional All Star Game held at Madison Square Garden in New York City ...

Lance Brown had a simple message for those who engaged in the rumor mill, publishing silly words that the New Jersey prospect was looking to get out of his letter of intent with the Fordham basketball program.

"It was never true," said Brown. "People started them because of Jio (Fontan) thinking about it. But I was always committed to Fordham. I'm excited about having a chance to play there."

Brown added: "I'm my own man."

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior guard chose Fordham over scholarship offers from Quinnipiac, Robert Morris, and George Mason.

"I feel I can come in and help the team right away," said Brown. "It's up to me. I have to work hard and earn the playing time. I plan to do so."

Brown scored 17 points in the Jordan Regional game, hitting 8 of 13 from the field in 19 minutes of play.

"I had a great time," he said. "It was fun to play at the Garden. It was a great way to end my high school career."

Before he heads to Fordham on May 26th to his college career, Lance will compete in the IS8 Spring League.

"I'm preparing myself and I'll work on all parts of my game before I get to Fordham," he said. "It's going to be a great experience."
