New Yorker Ready For His Trip To The Big East

Reporter Mike Sullivan discusses the game of New York forward Dan Jennings, who is preparing himself to play college basketball at West Virginia ... Sullivan spoke to Jennings about his future ...

Dan Jennings has always used his size to his advantage when playing basketball. Jennings, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound forward from St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Conn., played last weekend in the Michael Jordan Brand Classic held at Madison Square Garden.

"I had a great time," he said. "It was nice to cap off my high school career playing in this game. It was great to meet Michael Jordan too and hear him talk about his life a little."

Jennings, who competed last summer with the New York City Gauchos, scored 12 points in the all star game on five of seven from the field. He's preparing himself now for a chance to make an impact at West Virginia.

"I'm going to work hard to earn playing time, I understand that," he said. "I'm trying to work on all parts of my game. I know the Big East is a tough conference so I have to be ready."

Jennings wants to lose some weight too. "And get stronger," he added. "Once I get there I'll work on making myself stronger."

Jennings said the biggest change in his game isn't skill related. "I'm more mature," he said. "I've learned a lot over the past year. I'm more patient with myself. I've grown and I've learned."

Dan committed to West Virginia last summer. "I loved the campus and the coaches," he said. "It's the best place for me. I'm looking forward to playing there. They have great fans too. It's going to be fun."
