2010 New Jersey Forward Has D-1 Interest

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a free look at the individual game of Kazembe Abif, a forward from Unversity High School in the state of New Jersey ... Abif is a rising senior prospect ...

Kazembe Abif, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound inside forward from University High School in Newark, New Jersey, is a 2010 prospect who has a big spring and summer ahead.

If Abif has a solid spring and summer of AAU action, it's likely his list will expand and he'll receive some scholarship offers.

Abif, who is expected to compete for Team NJABC and head coach Matt Pauls over the next few months at AAU tournaments, has been described by Pauls as a player "who can play above the rim against the big bodies in the paint."

In addition, he is improving his perimeter game, trying to make his offensive game more versatile. "He uses his frame nicely near the rim, grabbing rebounds and being a factor defensively," Pauls said.

Pauls added: "Schools from the MAAC to the Atlantic 10 are showing interest."

Abif is also a terrific student, allowing more windows of opportunity for him down the road if he wishes to go this academic path.

Ivy and Patriot League schools are monitoring his progress.

Pauls concluded: "He is a great finisher near the basket. He can finish with thunderous dunks too."
