Upstate Combo Guard Still Locked In

Reporter Mike Sullivan updates the status of talented combo guard Taran Buie, who is expected to compete with the Albany City Rocks AAU program this month ...

Taran Buie, a 6-foot-2 backcourt player from Bishop Maginn High School in N.Y., is being counted on by Albany City Rocks program directer Jim Hart to help his AAU basketball team win some big events.

"We're at the Peach Jam, the Showcase, and the Nationals," said Hart.

Hart said Buie is still committed to Penn State, despite the rumors that floated around for a while. "As far as I know, he's going there," said Hart.

Hart said one key for Taran's future career in college basketball will be his decision making. "He is blessed with so much talent," said Hart.

Hart added: "He has so much ability. He's strong, takes it to the rim, shoots it. It's when he has the basketball, making the right decision."

Buie previously mentioned interest in Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Texas.

"He can do so many things well on the floor," said Hart. "He can elevate on his jumper, freeing him of open looks. He can dart past his defender going to the rim. He can defender, cause steals. He's going to be an impact player on the next level."
