Upstate Big Man Should Thrive This Month

Reporter Mike Sullivan discusses the individual game of Will Regan with his long-time AAU coach Jim Hart of the Albany City Rocks. Regan is needed to have a big month of July for the Rocks to have success ...

Albany City Rocks program director Jim Hart has watched Will Regan, a 6-foot-8 junior forward/center from Nichols High School in Buffalo, N.Y., play for a long time. "Many of the core guys have been together since they were 10 years old," said Hart.

Well, this wonderful ride is coming to a close over the next few weeks as the Albany City Rocks' 17 and under team competes at the Peach Jam, the Showcase, and the National AAU event.

"The amazing thing about Will is he does everything right not only on the court but off the court," Hart said. "He is one terrific kid and a great basketball player."

Regan, who has given a commitment to Virginia, is going to a great place, according to Hart. "With coach Bennett being there, his system, the way Will plays, this is perfect for him," he said. "Will will thrive in his system. He will love coaching Will too."

Regan possesses many weapons in his individual game. #1 Will never takes a possession off. #2 He can run the floor and beat slower defenders down the court for easy baskets. #3 He has the instincts to find the seams in a zone for the medium jumper. #4 He passes with skill out of double and triple teams. #5 He's improving in the area of rebounding in traffic. As he adds more strength to his frame, this area will continue to progress.

Regan previously considered Providence, Maryland, Arizona State, and Stanford, according to Hart.
