Samuels' Effort Can't Help Team Past Beacon

FLUSHING, NEW YORK -- Big man David Samuels has always impressed us. He plays hard on every possession, tries to push his teammates harder in certain parts of the game, and is usually around the basketball on both ends of the court.

Yesterday at Holy Cross High School in Queens, Samuels continues to utilize these favorable characteristics in his individual game.

Samuels produced 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds to lead New Rochelle's (NY) Blessed Sacrament-St. Gabriel H.S. However, his effort wasn't enough as his team fell short to a team that featured players from the Beacon 158 program.

At 6-foot-7, Samuels is worth a look and there were some low to mid division one coaches in the audience yesterday at Holy Cross. He's a tireless worker. When he develops a softer touch around the basket, David will become an even more effective player.

We will continue to report on his progress during the next several months here on this website. This was the third of five games played at the Super Hoop Jamfest and the second of three days.

The last day, Wednesday, begins play at 4 p.m. eastern time and concludes with a starting time of 8 p.m. Admission is only five dollars a person.

Note: Yesterday, FiveBoroSports.com reported that Samuels has scholarship offers from Drexel, Fairfield, Iona, Loyola and Robert Morris.
