2011 Guard Prospect Has Skills To Score

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on the status of Khalid El-Lewis' summer. Khalid played with Team NJABC during the July evaluation period. He concluded his July playing in an event held at St. John's University ...

Khalid Lewis-El, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound combo guard from Trenton Catholic Academy in Hamilton, New Jersey (previously McCorristin Catholic H.S.), continues to receive serious looks by several division one college basketball programs.

We had a chance to watch Khalid compete on Friday at the Summer in the City tournament held on the campus of St. John's University in Queens, New York.

Lewis does have a high skill level, possesses the touch to drive on the bigger bodies in the paint and score.

Khalid, who also plays for boys basketball head coach Fred Falchi at Trenton Catholic, has spent time with both the 16 and under and 17 and under Team NJABC AAU basketball program.

WHAT TEAM NJABC HEAD COACH MATT PAULS' THINKS ABOUT KHALID LEWIS' INDIVIDUAL GAME AND PROGRESS:

His recruitment has gone through the roof. He can score from any spot on the floor and he's doing it on a consistent basis. He plays hard on every possession too.

He dunks on his defenders too and can hit the deep ball.

He is the best rebounding and defensive guard in his class in New Jersey because of his length and athleticism. He needs to continue to get stronger so he finishes better.

I expect him to land more scholarship offers by the time the summer AAU season is over. He's improving each week because he's a hard worker and he's understanding the game more.

UNIVERSITIES/COLLEGES OF INTEREST;

St. John's, Rutgers, Villanova, Siena, Marist, St. Peter's, Robert Morris, Utah, Fairfield, Stony Brook, Ivy League and Patriot League schools.

CLASS: 2011, A rising junior

It's early in his recruiting process. What we would like to see is adding some strength to his frame and being a more consistent threat from the perimeter.
