More Offers Extended To New York City Guard

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on the recruiting status of talented guard prospect Russell Smith, who will play at South Kent in Connecticut starting this Fall ...

Russell Smith, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound combo guard who played for Jack Curran's Molloy Stanners last season, landed some more scholarship offers after his play in the July evaluation period.

"Auburn, Ball State, St. Bonaventure, and Houston offered," said Smith. "They are the new offers."

Smith is recovering from an injury, a wrist problem he developed early in the July period. "I hurt my wrist pretty bad at camp," he stated. "I sprained and straint it. I do have a soft cast on. I had injured it before but now it feels worst."

Smith is taking it easy, resting the wrist. He's anxious too to begin his prep year at South Kent. "I want to make sure my wrist is okay before I play again," he said.

Smith previously told us that he's still in the process of fielding calls from division one college basketball programs and its coaching staffs. He will take visits but is still trying to determine how many and where he'll take the trips.

"As far as visits, I don't have anything set up yet," he said. "My father and I are just waiting to see who calls in the first couple weeks of August."

PREVIOUS EVALUATION OF RUSS SMITH'S INDIVIDUAL GAME:

A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners.

PREVIOUS COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES OF INTEREST: Louisville, Rutgers, DePaul, Virginia, Connecticut, and Notre Dame.
