NJ Prospect Lands Area Scholarship Offer

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on talented underclassman Ryan McCoy, who picked up a nice division one scholarship offer from a New York based college ...

Ryan McCoy, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound forward from Montgomery High School in the state of New Jersey, landed a scholarship offer from Iona College, a division one program located in New Rochelle, New York, according to Team NJABC head coach Matt Pauls.

McCoy, who impressed us during the July evaluation period by competing for Matt Pauls' 16 and under Team NJABC basketball program, has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor. He has the skill level to drain deep jumpers. As he becomes stronger, he'll be more consistent finishing near the rim.

Previously, we reported that he had an offer by The Citadel. Ryan also has interest from Fairfield.

WHAT TEAM NJABC HEAD COACH MATT PAULS PREVIOUSLY SAID ABOUT RYAN MCCOY'S INDIVIDUAL GAME:

Because of his size and his ability to score points on many parts of the floor, college coaches are interested.

"He's only going to be a junior next Fall. So he has some time to make even more progress in his game. I expect him to become a better player because he's a hard worker.

He's emerging as one of the better players in the area from his class. He can play the wing position. He is one of the best pure shooters in the 2011 class (New Jersey).

OTHER SCHOOLS OF INTEREST:

Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Robert Morris, and Davidson.

He's an underclassman and continues to make progress. So it's likely that if McCoy allows his recruiting process to continue, more offers will land in his lap over the next few months.
