East Coast Guard Lands Scholarship Offer

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on East Coast guard prospect Joey Gripper, who recently received a scholarship offer ...

Joey Gripper, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound point guard from Abington Friends High School in Jenkintown, Penn., landed a scholarship offer from St. Bonaventure, according to his family.

Gripper had an impressive and very successful summer. Gripper recently scored 13 points to help Team Phenom claim a first round playoff victory in the NIKE Chosen League. However, Team Phenom lost in the semifinals to a team sponsored by Thaddeus Young, 100-90.

Joey produced a solid July evaluation period, prompting more division one college basketball programs to take a serious look at his skill level.

We previously reported that Gripper had some interest from Northeastern and Davidson.

Joey played with the 16 and under Team Phenom AAU team based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He averaged 12 points, seven assists and three steals for Team Phenom during AAU tournament play.

Here are some highlights of Joey's summer:<

Gripper, who made the all tournament team, tallied 15 assists in a semifinal playoff game game at the event and also scored 14 points and had 11 assists in the team's championship victory. Team Phenom defeated the New York Panthers, 68-57.

*Joey made the all tournament team at the Southern Invitational in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Drexel has also offered a scholarship while LaSalle and St. Joe's have shown interest.
