WEIGHT: 172 Pounds

CLASS: 2012, a rising sophomore. School begins next week here in the Northeast, after Labor Day.

HIGH SCHOOL: East Side High School in Newark, New Jersey

POSITIONS: Shooting guard/Point guard

AAU TEAM: New Jersey Elite

EARLY COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY INTEREST IN TARIQ CAREY: St. John's, St. Peter's, SMU, Stony Brook, Monmouth, St. Francis, St. Joe's, and Siena.

*Tariq will take an unofficial visit to St. John's University this week.


* Carey has taken an unofficial visit to SMU and also attended the SMU camp, according to Josh Harvey of,'s team SMU website. Harvey stated the Tariq felt he could have played better.

Tariq has also attended Norm Roberts' St. John's Elite camp.

We expect to watch Carey compete in the IS8 Fall League, starting next month at a venue in South Jamaica, New York. When we do see him play, we'll provide a detailed report.

*Carey competed at the recent Five Star camp in Honesdale, Penn. He was named to one of the All star games after his week of solid play.


STRENGTHS IN HIS INDIVIDUAL GAME: Can handle the ball effectively and doesn't mind challenging the bigger bodies inside the paint with drives to the basket.

A player who can score, Tariq has plenty of time to (A.) strengthen his frame, (B.) Develop more consistency in his perimeter effectiveness, and (C.) Become a better decision maker with the basketball.
