NYC Guard Has Another D-1 Program Visit

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on the recruiting status of talented guard prospect Russell Smith, who recently had another college program show serious interest ...

Russell Smith, a quick and prolific combo guard from South Kent in Connecticut, had another division one program step up its interest in his skill level.

"Baylor came by to see me," Smith said. "They offered me too. I'm probably going to visit them too."

The exciting 5-foot-11, 165-pound combo guard who played last season for Jack Curran's Molloy Stanners (Briarwood, New York), indicated to us yesterday that he plans on taking other campus trips too.

"I'm going to visit La Salle," said Smith. "I'm probably going to visit Houston too on November 7th," he said.

Smith, who can burn past defenders with his handle, is a terrific offensively minded guard who has the ability to produce plenty of points from almost any spot on the floor.

It's why he has solid division one interest right now in his skill level. "My third visit will probably come in December," he said, adding he's in no rush to make a college decision.

He previously mentioned interest in Auburn, Ball State, St. Bonaventure, Louisville, Rutgers, DePaul, Virginia, Connecticut, and Notre Dame.

PREVIOUS EVALUATION OF RUSS SMITH'S INDIVIDUAL GAME:

A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners.
