New York Guard Lining Up Campus Visits

Reporter Mike Sullivan updates the recruiting status of outstanding offensively minded guard Russell Smith, who played last season at Archbishop Molloy High School ...

Russell Smith, an offensively gifted guard from New York City, is expected to take some more campus trips over the next couple of weeks.

"I'm probably going to take a visit to Louisville next week," said Smith. "Louisville has been recruiting me hard as of late."

Russell plans on also taking a visit to Baylor at the end of this month. He's already taken a campus trip to La Salle.

"My visit went great at La Salle," he said. "La Salle is a great school and the city of Philadelphia in itself is wonderful. I got along well with the guys, and the coaches too."

Smith gushed more about La Salle. "There is a lot more to that school than many people think so I'm glad I got a chance to visit officially."

The talented 5-foot-11, 165-pound combo guard who played last season for Jack Curran's Molloy Stanners (Briarwood, New York), wants to visit Houston too. "I'm probably going to visit Houston too on November 7th," he said.

Smith, who can burn past defenders with his handle, is a terrific offensively minded guard who has the ability to produce plenty of points from almost any spot on the floor.

He previously mentioned interest in Auburn, Ball State, St. Bonaventure, Rutgers, DePaul, Virginia, and Connecticut.

A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners.
