Former Stanner Lands Scholarship Offer

Reporter Mike Sullivan provides a recruiting update on former Archbishop Molloy backcourt star Russell Smith, who is currently taking a prep year at South Kent in Connecticut ...

Russell Smith, a quick, offensively minded combo guard from South Kent in Connecticut, said he has another Big East offer. "Louisville offered me," Smith told us this evening.

Smith, who competed last year for Jack Curran's Archbishop Molloy Stanners, could also take a visit soon.

"I could take the visit on the 23rd (next month)," Smith said today.

Russell had previously stated he wanted to take an official visit to Baylor at the end of this month. He's already taken a campus trip to La Salle.

Smith said he had a great time to La Salle. "La Salle is a great school and the city of Philadelphia in itself is wonderful. I got along well with the guys, and the coaches too. There is a lot more to that school than many people think so I'm glad I got a chance to visit officially."

Russell, who is a lean 5-foot-11, 165-pounder, has spoken about visiting Houston on November 7th as well.

A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners.
