Outstanding prospect J.J. Moore (formerly of Brentwood High School, now with South Kent in Connecticut) produced 23 points yesterday to help the New York Panthers claim an 85-63 victory over Boys & Girls High School in one semifinal of the IS8 fall league.

The Panthers advanced to today's final against New Heights.

The Panthers jumped out to a 25-19 lead after the first eight minutes of play. By halftime, the defending IS8 champions had forged a 49-39 advantage in a very competitive game.

However, J.J. was about to get some needed help in the third quarter from offensively skilled guard Russell Smith. The former Molloy star drained 15 third-quarter points to overwhelm the Boys & Girls defense, giving the Panthers a 77-51 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Smith buried four three-pointers in the game while Moore scorched the defense for five three-pointers, including four from deep in the corners.

Smith finished the game with 22 points.

Boys & Girls was led by Leroy Isler, who had 20 points.
