Long Island Guard Sizzles In NYC Event

Reporter Mike Sullivan provides a season update on the status of Long Island underclassman Tyler Harris, who recently sparkled against one of the best teams in the New York City area ...

HEIGHT: 6-foot-8

WEIGHT: 176 pounds

HIGH SCHOOL: Dix Hills West High School in Dix Hills, New York (Long Island)

RECENT RESULTS: Tyler continues to produce some impressive numbers this season as a junior prospect.

Harris scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds, had three assists and was impressive on the defensive side of the ball. Tyler had give steals to help his team upend Bishop Loughlin, 75-72.

POSITIONS: Shooting Guard/Small Forward

CLASS: 2012 Class, a rising sophomore*

*The shooting guard prospect will reclassify to the 2012 class after graduating from Dix Hills West High School in 2011.

A prep school has yet to be selected.

AAU PROGRAM: Westchester Hawks, Unique All Stars (will compete for them in the IS8 Fall League), Albany City Rocks (sometimes).

AAU HEAD COACH: Torrel Harris, Unique All Stars

What we are seeing in Tyler is his ability to drop down the perimeter jumper on a more consistent level. His range can extend beyond the three-point line.

Another interesting note to his progress is the physical angle. He continues to grow as is almost as tall as his brother, Tobias. "He's going to be a great division one player," said one high division one head coach.

COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES OF INTEREST: Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Duquesne, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, Hofstra, West Virginia, Maryland, and Fordham.

STRENGTHS: Moves well without the basketball. He gives his guards a passing lane by finding the right spots to take his shot. He's quick near the rim too.

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Consistency from the perimeter and gaining strength are the two areas Tyler continues to make progress in this area. He has two seasons left before playing division one basketball.
