Big Man From Queens Okay After Practice Jolt

Reporter Mike Sullivan provides a season update on the status of big man Marcus Hopper, an underclassman from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York ...

Marcus Hopper, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, found out that sometimes practice is a physical part of having to deal with a long season.

Hopper sustained a whack to the mouth, opening up part of his lip. He went to the emergency room immediately. "I'm okay," he said. "It's only one stitch."

Marcus is having a very good junior year under head coach Paul Gilvary, considered one of the best head coaches on the high school level. He is averaging a double/double per contest, close to 10 points and 10 rebounds.

A member of the 2011 recruiting class, Marcus has always featured a wide frame, helping him play strong against the big bodies inside the paint. He has strong shoulders and has been making progress with his agility near the basket.

AREAS TO IMPROVE: The area to watch Marcus this season is in the category of finishing consistently near the basket.

Hopper competes hard on both ends of the court, stressing fundamentals.
