Two-Sport Star Ready For Big Game Tomorrow

Reporter Mike Sullivan provides an update on Anthony Gaffney's basketball season ... the two-sport star is ready to play a big playoff game tomorrow ...

Anthony Gaffney, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound football/basketball prospect from The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, said he is looking forward to a big playoff game tomorrow.

Gaffney, who is at the tail end of his basketball season, stated: "Hoops are going well. (We) just won our state tournament and we have our county semis tomorrow."

Gaffney is having a very solid junior year. "I think I'm averaging around eleven or twelve (points) a game," he said.

RECRUITING INTEREST: Gaffney, a solid talented football player, said Big East school Pittsburgh has been involved. He's also shown some interest in Connecticut.

"I had a good time," he said after the visit. "There were about 20-25 of us taking the visit. It was a better visit than others I've taken because the amount of players that were there. It was small."

Gaffney has also taken a visit to Rutgers.

WHAT HIS HOOPS AAU COACH MATT PAULS SAID ABOUT ANTHONY GAFFNEY AS A BASKETBALL PLAYER:

His midrange game has improved dramatically. He has been attacking the rim with a vengeance. He needs improve his ballhandling and penetrating left.

Anthony was invited to many elite camps in June. He attended basketball camps at at Columbia, Penn, Cornell, Bucknell and St. Joe's. In addition, Gaffney competed at the Hoop Group Elite camps.

Mostly Ivy League and Patriot League schools
