Brooks Helps Cardozo Surge Past Curtis

Reporter Mike Sullivan provides a free detailed game story on Cardozo High School's quarterfinal victory tonight inside Lou Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John's University ...

Malcolm Brooks, a senior guard prospect, buried five three-pointers to help Cardozo High School knock off Curtis High School in a PSAL quarterfinal game held inside Lou Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John's University.

Cardozo will meet Transit Tech Wednesday evening in a PSAL semifinal playoff game at St. John's University.

Brooks' shooting skills helped the Judges move quickly to a 16-8 first quarter lead. The advantage stretched slightlhy, 30-19, at the half. Heading into the fourth quarter, Cardozo had put the game away at 46-27.

Brooks' ability to hit several three-pointers in the first half was a big reason why Cardozo is set to play a semifinal game. His skill level opened up the interior of the Curtis Warriors' defense in the second half for the Judges' big men to get working.

Dwayne Brunson scored 13 points for the winners while Marquis Barnett added eight points for Ron Naclerio's highly regarded basketball program.

The old saying is if your outside game shines, your inside game is ready to take off. And this worked perfectly for Cardozo from one half to the other.
