"I'm already here," he said. "I'm working on the weights, trying to add some weight and get stronger."
The former Stanner from Archbishop Molloy (Briarwood, New York), feels with the physical improvements he's making will help him compete more effectively for the Louisville program.
"I'm just going to work hard in everything I do here," he said. "I'm working the weights everyday, working on my shot."
"I'm ready to do whatever Coach needs or wants me to do," he added.
Smith has always been a fierce guard who is not afraid to challenge bodies so much stronger than his near the rim.
Russell possesses a sneaky quickness and guile while scoring points against the big bodies in the paint.
As his body strengthens, he'll be even more confident about taking the ball to the rim. Decision making is the key part for Smith too. He'll need time to adjust to the pace and physical style of the Big East.

A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners.
