Long Island Prospect Takes Big East Trip

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a recruiting update on Tyler Harris, a rising senior prospect from Long Island, New York. Harris recently took an unofficial visit to a Big East basketball program ...

Tyler Harris, a 6-foot-8 guard from Long Island, New York, had a very good campus visit to Providence College in Rhode Island, according to his dad, Torrel.

We previously reported that Tyler has a top 11 college/university list in his recruiting process -- Connecticut, St. John's, North Carolina State, Washington, Duquesne, South Florida, Providence, Iowa, Rhode Island, Wake Forest, and Rutgers.

"Providence trip went well," said Mr. Harris. "Tyler enjoyed meeting Coach Keno Davis and his staff."

Mr. Harris added: "Providence is great academic school with rich history. I didn't know so many great players went to the school from Lenny Wilkins, John Thompson, Ernie D, Marvin Barnes, Eric Murdock, Ryan Gomes, Chet Walker, Eric Williams ..."

Mr. Harris said the visit helped gather information on many topics of interest to Tyler.

"We had some great meeting with coach Davis about a lot of different topics," Mr. Harris stated. "We toured the facility in which I classified as state of the art. We met the academic advisor, the strength, speed & agility trainer. We watched film of their offense and how Tyler would fit in their system."

Mr. Harris concluded: "Overall it was a very good unofficial visit."

Tyler and his dad were supposed to visit Connecticut. "Until we had car trouble and we had to get my car towed home from Darien, Connecticut," he said. "We will have to reschedule the visit with UCONN another time."

Tyler, who competed for the Albany City Rocks over the summer, is expected to narrow the list down soon. His father stated there is no leader in his son's recruiting process.
