Pinecrest's Kennedy receives first BCS offer

Bryce Kennedy received his first major scholarship offer on Wednesday when South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott visited the 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive tackle. Elliott was at Pinecrest High School this morning watching Kennedy during weight lifting when he made the offer.

Kennedy has flown under the radar of many recruiting analyst but Elliott has watched him grow and mature as a player over the past two years.

"I went to the South Carolina camp two years ago as a freshman and [Elliott] has watched me develop ever since," Kennedy said.

The dual sport athlete has excelled both on the basketball court and the gridiron, but academics could be the deciding factor as to which school he attends, as he carries with him a 4.0 overall GPA.

"South Carolina is one of my top schools academic wise," Kennedy adds. "For me grades and academics come first, sports comes last."

Humble is a word that could be used to describe Kennedy, he carries himself with quiet demeanor off the field, but opponents have seen his ferocity and athleticism first hand in one of North Carolina's toughest 4A conferences.

"Bryce is a very hard worker," Pinecrest head coach Chris Metzger said. "He's a guy that between the white lines of the football field is a warrior, but as soon as he steps off the field, he's a leader."

Kennedy's footwork and speed may be his biggest attribute. Not only does he start as an offensive tackle but he's also an outside linebacker who can drop back in pass coverage or play the run.

When Kennedy is not on the football field or hardwood, he can usually be found volunteering his time as the manager of the Pinecrest baseball team or volunteering his time with other community events.
