McNeill Wants to Succeed

Mocksville (N.C.) Davie County junior offensive lineman Trip McNeill has been a major priority for several college coaching staffs. The junior has scholarship offers from around the region.

"Everything has been going pretty good," said Trip McNeill. "We had a pretty good season, but I believe it ended a little too early. We lost in the second round of the playoffs."

McNeill is one of the top 2014 prospects in North Carolina and already has scholarship offers from Duke, East Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, and Wake Forest.

"It's still about the same," said the 6-foot-5, 300-pound McNeill. "I've been talking to those schools very heavily and Clemson. Clemson mentioned offering a long time ago, but they haven't said anything lately."

"From what I've heard, I'm on the top of all their lists, so I would say they are all recruiting me about the same."

The Davie County standout has spent the last couple of months getting more familiar with all the schools.

"I've been to all those schools at least once," he said. "They all stood out in different ways. Each one was pretty unique."

"I'm building a really close relationship with all the coaches recruiting me."

There are a few main factors that will go into his decision

"I'm looking for a place where I feel like I could get a fair amount of playing time, be able to redshirt, and walk away with a great degree," said McNeill. "I just want to be able to succeed at that school."

Location is also important.

"I'm really hoping not to go anywhere further away than UVA or Clemson.

With the season over, McNeill will start to focus more on recruiting.

"During the winter, I'm going to take a bunch of visits," McNeill said. "I'm going to try to narrow my list of schools down a little bit for the spring."

"I was hoping to make my decision in the spring, or between the spring and the beginning of next school year."
