Nicholson Chooses FSU

Making a decision that seemed inevitable since the beginning of his recruitment, Derek Nicholson of Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor announced his decision to commit to Florida State.

"I just gave it to god to be honest with you," explained Nicholson on ESPN News. "I was wavering back and forth between the three schools, especially UNC and Florida State."

Although the decision basically came down to North Carolina and Florida State, Nicholson also considered Virginia Tech and Texas. The 6-foot, 228-pound All-American officially visited all four of the aforementioned schools.

Nicholson eclipsed the 500 career tackles mark in mid-season of senior year and proved his worth in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl by recording nine total tackles.

His decision reunites Nicholson with his older brother A.J. – also a linebacker – in Tallahassee. His father, Darrell, also a heralded linebacker, starred for North Carolina and then the New York Giants in the NFL.
