Pisgah Claims First Title

Pisgah finished off the unthinkable Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Black Bears defeated Warren County 66-41; winning the Bears' first state title and capping off an undefeated season.

Postgame, Warren County head coach John Moseley summed up the Pisgah Bears basketball team this year in just one sentence: "Pisgah had a tremendous team."

Playing a stifling defense, Pisgah owned the first quarter, allowing the Bears just six first quarter points. At the end of one, Pisgah led 23-6 and the Bears held off the Warren County attack from there. Warren County was able to cut one point off of the lead in the second quarter bringing the score to 35-19 at the half.

At the half, Warren County had just 19 points – Pisgah big man had 17 points by himself.

The second half was more of the same from the Black Bears. With good passing, physical play, teamwork, and a hard nosed defense, Pisgah put the Warren County Eagles (22-10) away, pulling off a 66-41 victory to finish their season 29-0.

Guard Eric Stevenson was named most outstanding player for the East while the West's most outstanding player was junior forward Jonathan Whitson. The game's overall MVP was junior forward Jake Robinson who finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds.
