First Offer on the Way?

Athlete Alex Frye of Fayetteville (N.C.) Britt is fielding interest from Tennessee, Wake Forest, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Virginia.

However, its in-state school North Carolina that appears to be on the verge of offering the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder.

"UNC said once I take my SAT they will offer," said Alex Frye. "They are looking for me to play free safety."

Frye had this conversation with the Tar Heels' coaching staff during their junior day. He has also attended junior days at Virginia and Tennessee.

Although reluctant to name any favorites, Frye admits that the schools that are recruiting him now will have an upper hand later.

"The ones that are showing the most interest right now that's the ones that I like," said Frye. "Since they've been there since the beginning that's the ones I like so far."

During's All-American Combine, Frye posted one of the more impress performances. He recorded a 4.62-second forty-yard dash on grass, 4.28-second twenty-yard shuttle, vertically leaped 38.5 inches, and broad jumped 116 inches.

Frye plans to provide a similar showing this summer during camps at Maryland, North Carolina, and Penn State.

On a high school roster full of potential division I-A recruits, Frye is the most talented. Last season he picked off five passes and accumulated 55 tackles.
