Whitley Holding Five Offers

In the recruiting world, it seems like it just takes that first scholarship offer to be tendered and things just avalanche from there.

Norman Whitley, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound tailback from Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond, is living proof. After North Carolina extended him his first scholarship offer, the tenders began to pour in.

"In the last week and a half I got offers from Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia, and Michigan," said Whitley. "After North Carolina offered they started rolling down. It's slowed down a bit lately, but I think it will pick up again."

When things pick back up, Clemson, South Carolina, Oregon, UCLA, and Nebraska are the likely candidates to continue the avalanche.

The new offers and anticipation of others has made it difficult for Whitley to establish a favorites list, but he does hope to have things narrowed down by the end of May.

"I don't really have any favorites," said Whitley. "I think as things start heating up in May that's when I'm going to start narrowing down, but I'm far from making a decision."

To help narrow things down, Whitley has been taking quite a few unofficial visits including trips to Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. He hopes to visit Tennessee, Oregon, Nebraska, and Michigan in the upcoming months.

Last weekend, Whitley was the toast of the Shrine Bowl combine held in his hometown. He ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, 4.06-second 20-yard shuttle, vertically jumped 33.9 inches, and even rep'd 185 pounds 20 times.
