Godfrey's Combine Showings Gain Interest

With every combine appearance, Dennis Godfrey has slowly begun to creep into the recruiting circle. His performances haven't produced a scholarship offer so far, but Godfrey feels it's only a matter of time.

"I haven't gotten any offers yet," said Godfrey. "I just took the SAT last week; I'll get my score this week so hopefully some offers will come towards me. I'm getting interest from Wake Forest, Tennessee, North Carolina, N.C. State, Duke, Virginia Tech and South Carolina."

Godfrey, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound tight end/defensive end from Sanford (N.C.) Lee Senior, put up solid combine numbers during the Shrine Bowl Combine this past Saturday and Nike Combine a few weekends back. However it's his performances during one-on-one passing drills that have caught the eyes of scouts in attendance. Godfrey displays great route running for a bigger guy and soft hands, not to mention his uncanny ability to make the catch in traffic.

Before heading off to the May combines, Godfrey has spent March and April unofficially visiting interested schools. He has attended junior days and springs games at Wake Forest, North Carolina, and N.C. State.

For his travels and research, Godfrey, who hopes to commit before the end of the summer, has developed a fairly solid leader.

"I like Wake Forest," said Godfrey. "I like the campus size, the graduation rate, and it's like a family environment to me."

On his way to all-conference honors, Godfrey caught 12 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown.

Godfrey plans to camp at North Carolina, Wake Forest, and South Carolina this summer.
