Melvin Holds ECU Offer

On the high school football scene, the Fayetteville area is known to be one of the more competitive areas in North Carolina. On the recruiting front, the Fayetteville area is known to produce some very good lineman prospects with this year's contribution being Travis Melvin.

"I don't know why we always have good lineman," said Melvin. "I guess it's a good work ethic from the coaches."

Following in the footsteps of Curtis Crouch, DeMarcus Tyler, Kyndreas Guy, and Daniel Inman, Melvin, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound lineman from Fayetteville (N.C.) Cape Fear, has attracted recruiters to Fayetteville.

"East Carolina offered in the beginning of May," said Melvin. "I'm being recruited by North Carolina, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and N.C. State."

To build upon that interest, Melvin has hit the summer camping circuit hard attending camps at Virginia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State, and East Carolina.

"All my camps went pretty good," said Melvin. "I felt I did a pretty good job, but I didn't hear much as far as an offer is concerned."

With so much up in the area and a deep focus on his senior season, Melvin declines to list any favorites.

"Not really – I'm undecided," said Melvin. "I got another year of football at the high school level that I'm concentrating on."

Melvin is being recruited mostly at right offensive tackle, but is getting some looks at defensive end and N.C. State and Virginia have even tried him out at tight end.

Last season, Melvin started at right tackle for Cape Fear, but will start both ways this season.
