Mullins Sits Out Pigskin Preview

Saturday's Pigskin Preview held at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. saw an impressive list of division I-A recruits strut their stuff including five-star lineman Carl Johnson, three-star athlete Kendric Burney, and four-star wide out Deunta Williams.

One blue-chip prospect was scheduled to participate, but sat the sideline as a safety measure – Aleric Mullins, a 6-foot-1, 295-pound defensive tackle from Wendell (N.C.) East Wake.

"I tweaked my hamstring and my coaches told me to sit out as a minor precaution," said Mullins. "We have a couple scrimmages coming up this week so it's no big deal for me to miss these scrimmages."

With Mullins dressed, East Wake will host Greenville (N.C.) Rose Tuesday, and travel to Wilson (N.C.) to scrimmage Fike High School Thursday. They open their season August 26th against Wake Forest-Rolesville (N.C.).

On the recruiting front, Mullins has slowly, but surely, assembled a solid list of scholarship offers that recently increased to 18 tenders.

"Florida State and Tennessee just offered," said Mullins. "It's good to hear from those schools. Florida State has a very strong ‘D' and Tennessee is up-and-coming. It's just good to get offers from them."

With new schools constantly throwing their hats into the ring, Mullins is finding it difficult to develop a top ten.

"I don't know [about favorites]," said Mullins with a laugh. "I think I'm going to be looking at schools more seriously soon. Before Christmas time I should have my top five down and have my visits done. I'll probably have my decision after that, but before Signing Day."

A four-star recruit, Mullins was recently named the third best prospect in North Carolina by
