GASTONIA --- That is one word to describe Shelby Crest's 33-conference game winning streak. Crest has not lost a conference game since 1999. Well, the Green Wave of Gastonia Ashbrook decided "The road ends here."

The visitors from Gastonia gave Crest an unpleasant welcome to the Big South with a 13-12 upset at Sid Bryson Stadium.

The Green Wave in turn, snapped a four game losing streak. After losing 26-6 to Clover, 35-7 to Shelby, 47-33 to Burns and losing a 24-21 heartbreaker to East Rutherford, it was clear as to why the Green Wave were heavy underdogs. But that did not matter as Ashbrook rebounded in a big way. They went from being a 1-4 team to being 1-0 in the conference.

The Chargers out-gained Ashbrook in total offensive yardage 333-138, but had too many penalties to hold off the hungry Green Wave team. Crest racked up 10 penalties for 108 yards.

All of Crest's scores were field goals by kicker Doug Lowery.

Ashbrook's scores were on a short Patrick Hall run and a J.P. Snyder pass to Jashawn Spencer. Both were in the second quarter. Ashbrook led 13-9 at half-time.

Crest would make it 13-12 in the third quarter with Lowery's final field goal. But, it wasn't enough to keep the streak alive.
