Sykes Now Firm

This past weekend Virginia Tech commit Jacob Sykes headed to Blacksburg for his final official visit. But before leaving for his trip, the Hokies' coaching staff made an in-home visit to answer some important questions.

"Coach [Frank] Beamer and Coach [Charley] Wiles came to my house Wednesday night before my visit and they basically answered my questions then," said Sykes. "When I went on the visit it was just a follow-up and a time for me to enjoy my time away from home and enjoy the atmosphere at Virginia Tech."

Sykes, a 6-foot-1 170-pound wide receiver from Goldsboro (N.C.), committed to Virginia Tech in July, but scheduled official visits with N.C. State and East Carolina. After taking officials with ECU and Va Tech, Sykes is officially firm with the Hokies.

"I was committed [before], I just wanted to see my other options," said Sykes. "I'm really committed now."

One of the more important topics discussed during Sykes's in-home visit was his grey shirt situation.

"When they came by my house, Coach Beamer was talking about the benefits of me coming in January," said Sykes. "I would come in bigger and stronger, and I'll be developed coming in as a true freshman. He said I need to use my time wisely to get bigger and come in and make an impact."

Sykes's senior season ended with 24 catches for 480 yards and three touchdowns.
