Cox Now Looking at Five

Once considered a strong N.C. State lean, Rodney Cox has decided to slightly open things up. However, five schools – and their offenses – have caught the rising seniors' attention.

"It's all open now until after my senior year," said Cox. "I do like Florida, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Clemson. I want to be in a wide open offense, and those schools have mostly a wide open offense."

Cox, a 6-foot-6 228-pound athlete from Angier (N.C.) Harnett Central, has the frame and athletic ability to play numerous positions at the next level. According to Cox, though, quarterback is where most coaching staffs are recruiting him.

Although Cox has seen an increase in interest over the last few weeks, N.C. State is still his lone scholarship offer.

"I still have just [N.C.] State," said Cox. "I'm hearing from [North] Carolina, Florida, Notre Dame, Clemson, and USC."

Over the summer Cox plans to hit the college camping circuit hard, but hasn't decided which camps he will attend.

For Harnett Central, Cox starred at quarterback where he ran a spread-option style offense similar to the offense employed by Urban Meyer. As a junior, Cox completed 70-of-132 passes (53%) for 1,471 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 2,370 yards and 32 touchdowns.
