UVa on Board with an Offer for Powell

Virginia is the latest school to enter the Tydreke Powell sweepstakes, but they don't appear to be the last.

"I got my letter today [Wednesday] from UVa," said Powell. "I know they were going to offer me a scholarship, but I was just waiting on the letter. They were texting me and I would call them all the time.

"My coach mentioned that Clemson called about me the other day, I'm not sure what's up with Clemson, but I'm pretty sure when someone watches my tape I'm pretty sure they'll offer me."

Powell, a 6-foot-3 283-pound defensive end from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County, revealed that the offer has had little effect on his favorites list – North Carolina is still his leader. However, he admits his recruitment is still young.

"It's too early in the [recruiting] season to make my decision on where I want to go," said Powell.

This weekend Powell is planning to attend junior days at N.C. State on Saturday and East Carolina on Sunday.

As for summer camps, Powell will hit up one-day camps at Virginia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, and N.C. State.

In addition to the Cavaliers, Powell has collected offers from North Carolina, N.C. State, East Carolina, and Virginia Tech.

Last season, Powell was the defensive player opposing offenses ran away from. Regardless, Powell managed to be among the state leaders in sacks with eleven.
