Miami, Kentucky Extend Offers Powell

Just when you think Tydreke Powell's scholarship offers well has dried up, tenders popup out of nowhere. Thursday, Powell added two impressive offers to his pile.

"I've been calling Miami the last two weeks, the defensive tackle coach, I've been talking to him," said Powell. "He'd been telling me he had to watch my tape with the head coach. I called him tonight and he said ‘I have some good news. How would you like to become a Hurricane?' I told him ‘I don't know, I'm just weighing my options.' He said ‘Well, you got a scholarship whenever you make up your mind.'

"I called my coach right after that, and he was on the phone with Kentucky and told me he'd call me back. And Kentucky offered me tonight, and they want me to call them tomorrow [Friday]."

Powell, a 6-foot-3 285-pound defensive tackle from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County, also holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

A well known UNC lean, the constant flow of offers has reduced the gap between the Tar Heels and a handful of other schools.

"It definitely opens things up for other schools," said Powell. "But, like I said, [North] Carolina is still my number one school, but the other schools are right there behind Carolina.

"[Schools right behind UNC] definitely [include] the schools I've visited so far like N.C. State and Auburn, but those are the only two schools I've been to. And Miami is a big school that I was thinking about going to like Carolina."

Last week Powell made his visit to Auburn and had a good time.

"The Auburn visit went really good," said Powell. "When I first got there we had a meeting with the head coach and my recruiting coach. They took me around the school, then we walked into the locker room, and walked on the field. Then we just pretty much watched the spring game."

April 8th Powell will be in attendance for North Carolina's spring game.

Over the summer, Powell will camp at North Carolina, N.C. State, and Miami.
