Tyrell Worthington got the show going by posting the first attention grabbing 40-yard dash time of 4.36 seconds. The Winterville (N.C.) South Central tailback also had one of the better 20-yard shuttle times in the uncooperative Methodist College gym – 4.36 seconds. He rounded out the day with a 29.3-inch vertical jump and 10 repetitions of 185 pounds, while measuring in at 5-foot-10 ½ and 184 pounds.
Workout warrior Greg Little continued his dominance of combines with a well-rounded performance. After checking in at 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds, the Durham (N.C.) Hillside athlete yielded a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, 4.44-second 20-yard dash, 32.1-inch vertical jump, and 26 bench reps of 185 pounds.
The true showstopper of the afternoon, however, was N.C. State commit Chris Culliver. In Babe Ruth fashion, Culliver predicted a 40-yard dash time in the 4.2-second range despite staring at a wet track. With four watches on him, the Garner (N.C.) cornerback delivered with a 4.28-second run.
Culliver, who checked in at 6-foot and 190 pounds, also recorded a 4.55-second 20-yard shuttle, 36.9-inch vertical jump, and 22 repetitions of 185 pounds.
About a month ago Culliver busted onto many recruiting radars with his performance during Scout.com's All-American Combine. Miguel Chavis, a jumbo athlete from Fayetteville (N.C.) Sanford, did the same Saturday in Fayetteville with his showing.
After passing the "look" test –6-foot-4 and 243 pounds – Chavis then went on to post relatively solid times in the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle – 4.83 seconds and 4.72 seconds, respectively. He also pushed 185 pounds 23 times and vertically jumped 29.3-inches.
Another sleeper prospect having a coming-out party was Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond Senior's Melvin Ingram. The 6-foot ½, 217-pound linebacker recorded a 4.59-second 40-yard dash, 4.43-second 20-yard shuttle, 35.8-inch vertical jump, and 16 repetitions of 185 pounds.
After checking in at 6-foot-5 and 269 pounds, Wesley Saunders clocked respectively fast times in both the 40-yard dash (4.83 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (4.49 seconds).
