The Ashbrook Green Wave was the Pre-season favorite to win the Big South 4A/3A conference title. However, the Green Wave is 0-2 to start the conference. The South Point Red Raiders have also had it rough. They racked up four wins on the field, but have had to forfeit all of them due to an ineligible player.

Neither one of these teams has started 0-3 in the conference in years. One of these teams will have the unfortunate task of doing just that and will be hard-pressed to get a playoff bid. Ashbrook has missed the playoffs only once in the last eight years while South Point has not missed the playoffs since 1998.

In two of Ashbrook's losses, the Green Wave came very close to pulling it out. They lost 27-24 to Shelby on a last minute trick play and lost 46-41 to Burns after trailing 39-14 at half-time.

Ashbrook has also lost a few key players. QB Gabe Beverly is out for the season while the original starting QB, J.P. Snyder's return is uncertain at this time. Senior RB Patrick Hall has been the main go-to guy for the Green Wave this year. Jayshawn Spencer has also contributed greatly on offense. DB Leshawn Spencer, DL Jeff Johnson and LBs Jordan Rollins and Walter Williamson have been key factors on defense and will play a role in stopping South Point.

Sophomore QB Desmond Lowery anchors South Point's Red-bone offense. FB Matt Hudspeth has carried the Red Raiders along with WB Marcus Duckworth. DL Adam McClean and LB John Goodwin will be key players in stopping the run. DB Thomas Davie and Stan Wilson have each played a role to shutting down opponents' air attacks.

Neither team is known to fold in the clutch in times of adversity. Look for these trying times to bring out the best in both of these teams. The road to the playoffs will not get any easier for these two. The game will kick off at Ashbrook at 7:30.
